What it Does

Where our
Solutions Work

Blue-White® provides accurate chemical metering and flow monitoring solutions that support nutrient removal processes in municipal wastewater treatment plants. Whether using biological or chemical treatment to meet effluent limits for nitrogen and phosphorus, our metering pumps, flow meters, and chemical feed systems help facilities improve process stability, reduce operational costs, and protect receiving waters.

Precision Dosing

Why Nutrient Removal Matters

High levels of nitrogen and phosphorus in treated wastewater can lead to algal blooms, oxygen depletion, and aquatic ecosystem damage. To prevent this, regulatory agencies have implemented strict nutrient discharge limits, requiring municipalities to optimize their treatment processes with precise chemical control.

Common challenges include:

  • Managing fluctuating influent loading
  • Maintaining process stability in biological nutrient removal (BNR) systems
  • Minimizing chemical costs while consistently meeting permit limits
  • Avoiding process upset or underdosing that affects treatment performance

Blue-White solutions help address these issues by delivering repeatable, accurate chemical dosing under real-world operating conditions.

Treatment Applications

Key Applications in
Nutrient Removal

Nutrient Removal processes require accurate dosing for:

Denitrification (Nitrogen Removal)

  • Feed carbon sources like methanol, acetate, or glycerol to support biological denitrification
  • Flow-paced or load-based dosing into anoxic zones
  • Tight chemical control avoids overdosing (which can drive up BOD) or underdosing (which reduces nitrate removal efficiency)

Chemical Phosphorus Removal

  • Inject ferric chloride, aluminum sulfate, or sodium aluminate for phosphorus precipitation
  • Often used as a chemical “backstop” for biological phosphorus removal (Bio-P) systems
  • Applied at primary clarifiers, secondary clarifiers, or tertiary filters
  • Apply nutrients or pH adjustment to support deammonification in side streams from digesters or dewatering processes
  • Accurate low-flow chemical dosing is critical in these small-volume, high-strength streams

Applications benefit from automated, flow-paced chemical metering that adjusts to load changes and operating conditions.

The Blue-White Solution

Solutions for
Nutrient Removal

Our solutions are engineered to deliver the accuracy, flexibility, and reliability nutrient removal systems demand—especially in compliance-driven environments. FLEXFLO® Peristaltic Pumps easily handle thick carbon sources and corrosive coagulants, while CHEM-FEED® Diaphragm Pumps provide stable, pulseless flow for continuous or batch phosphorus removal. Paired with paddlewheel or ultrasonic flow meters, operators gain real-time flow pacing to maintain proper chemical-to-flow ratios and process balance. With 4–20 mA and pulse outputs, systems integrate seamlessly into SCADA platforms for responsive, data-driven control.

Pre-assembled chemical feed skids are configured specifically for carbon or coagulant dosing and are compact yet scalable for small or large BNR systems. Built for outdoor, corrosive, and high-humidity environments, they support continuous-duty operation with minimal maintenance and include leak detection, local displays, and optional remote monitoring. The result: consistent effluent nutrient levels, reduced chemical costs through flow-paced dosing, fewer process upsets, and long-term reliability backed by durable, easy-to-service components.
