What it Does

Where our
Solutions Work

Maintain optimal water chemistry with precise pH control. Blue-White® chemical metering pumps and CO₂ feed systems help aquatics professionals keep pH levels within the recommended 7.2–7.6 range for swimmer comfort, chlorine efficiency, and equipment protection.

Precision Dosing

Why pH Balance Matters in Commercial Pools

pH is one of the most critical parameters in commercial pool water chemistry. It directly influences how effectively chlorine sanitizes the water — when pH drifts too high, chlorine becomes significantly less active, compromising water safety. When it drops too low, the water turns aggressive, corroding metal components and irritating swimmers’ skin and eyes.

The ideal pH range for commercial aquatic facilities is 7.2 to 7.6, matching the natural pH of human eyes and mucous membranes. Maintaining this narrow window requires continuous, precise chemical dosing — something that manual adjustment cannot reliably achieve in high-traffic public facilities.

Consequences of improper pH levels include cloudy or discolored water, accelerated equipment corrosion, lime precipitation, skin and eye irritation for bathers, and potential regulatory penalties that could force a facility to close for corrective action.

Key Considerations:

  • Optimal pH range of 7.2–7.6 maximizes chlorine disinfection efficiency
High pH reduces chlorine effectiveness; low pH causes equipment corrosion and swimmer discomfort
  • Municipal health departments require consistent pH compliance for commercial facilities
  • Two approaches: liquid acid dosing via chemical metering pumps, or CO₂ injection for a chemical-free alternative

pH Adjustment Methods

Two Proven Approaches to Pool pH Control

Commercial aquatics facilities typically manage pH using one of two methods: dosing liquid acid (muriatic or sulfuric acid) with a chemical metering pump, or injecting carbon dioxide gas with a dedicated CO₂ feed system. Each method has distinct advantages depending on facility size, chemical handling capabilities, and local regulations.

FLEXFLO® Peristaltic Metering Pumps

Blue-White® peristaltic metering pumps precisely dose muriatic acid or other pH-adjusting chemicals into the recirculation system. Their valve-free design eliminates clogging and vapor lock — common issues when pumping chemicals that off-gas.

  • Self-priming, even against maximum line pressure — cannot vapor lock or lose prime
  • Patented Tube Failure Detection (TFD) prevents hazardous chemical spills
  • No check valves or seals to clog, leak, or corrode
  • Remote Start/Stop and 4-20mA signal compatibility for controller integration

CHEM-FEED® Diaphragm Metering Pumps

A tried-and-true technology trusted in the aquatics industry for decades. The CHEM-FEED® C-600P and C-1500N diaphragm metering pumps offer extremely cost-effective initial pricing with reliable performance for acid dosing in pH adjustment applications.

  • Extremely cost-effective — low initial investment for dependable chemical feed
  • Stroke adjustment (4–100% on C-600P, 5–100% on C-1500N) for precise dosing
  • Chemical-resistant PVDF pump head and PTFE-coated diaphragm
  • All ball-bearing, permanently lubricated gear motor for smooth, quiet operation
  • C-600P: up to 21.5 GPH at pressures to 125 PSI
  • C-1500N: up to 9.5 GPH at 125 PSI, NEMA 3R outdoor-rated enclosure

Blue-White® CO₂ Feed System

The CO₂ Feed System lowers pH by injecting carbon dioxide directly into the water supply, forming carbonic acid. This eliminates the need for hazardous liquid acids, reducing safety risks for maintenance personnel and simplifying chemical handling.

  • Lowers pH naturally without muriatic acid, sulfuric acid, or sodium bisulfate
  • Includes Blue-White® F-440 adjustable flow meter for accurate, consistent CO₂ dosing
  • Built-in safety: CO₂ cannot over-dose — the reaction self-limits below pH 6
  • NEMA 4X enclosure for indoor or outdoor installation in harsh environments
  • Minimal impact on total alkalinity, helping maintain stable water chemistry
  • Less equipment corrosion compared to liquid acid dosing

Choosing between acid and CO₂? CO₂ feed systems offer a safer handling profile and cannot over-dose the water, making them an excellent choice for facilities with seasonal staff. However, for large outdoor pools where heavy rainfall can spike pH dramatically, liquid acid may provide faster correction. Blue-White® offers both solutions — contact us to discuss what’s right for your facility.
