Job Summary

The Lead Electrical Engineer designs, develops or improves, and tests integrated electrical and/or electronics hardware components and systems and/or firmware for Blue-White flowmeters and other devices.  Based on product parameters and customer requirements, designs analog and digital circuitry, power distribution modules, and signal and communication systems.  Assembles prototype PCB’s and systems, conducts product testing and evaluates performance and reliability results, Works closely with Engineering counterparts, Sales and Marketing, and Production personnel.  Collaborates with and inspires others well by living a hard work ethic and supporting the needs of co-workers.  The position performs a vital part in enhancing the Company’s infrastructure, and has the capability to contribute to the strength and sustainable growth of Blue-White Industries.

Essential Job Functions

  • Design electric and electronic circuitry and systems for new products
  • Determine design approaches and parameters to meet product and system requirements
  • Evaluate and select components and applications, and create designs to meet specific design criteria by applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, making adaptations and modifications as appropriate
  • Investigate and analyze product design proposals on electrical power panels, control panels, wire harnesses and other components in accordance with UL, NEC, CSA, and CE codes, and recommend appropriate design solution
  • Design embedded systems with integrated microcontroller, analog and digital signal processing and motor controls
  • Generating electrical schematics and BOM’s with electronic hardware components for PCBs
  • Work with operators to develop processes for building and assembling electrical components
  • Design and develop printed circuit boards (PCB’s); specifications for new products, including PCB layout drawings
  • Generate Gerber data on PCB designs for use in fabrication
  • Build, test, and debug firmware for all new designed PCB’s
  • Prepare and oversee research documentation and report preparation to support designs
  • Identify and work with various vendors to support production manufacturing
  • Develop project scopes, schedules and budgets relating to new electric and electronic components to meet project goals
  • Develop test plans and conduct experimental tests and evaluate results to confirm system and component capabilities and assure product quality
  • Incorporate reliability analysis during the design and test process
  • Support existing electric and electronic product components
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot instrument and electrical and/or electronic systems malfunctions or performance problem in existing products and make changes as needed
  • Provide technical support/direction to Product Engineers, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Sales
  • Support Sales team with product modifications and engineering expertise for custom projects
  • Provide timely technical support and problem resolution for production problems encountered
  • Comply with all Company policies

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, with concentration in Analog and/or Digital Electrical Engineering
  • 5-10 years’ experience in Electrical Engineering in a manufacturing environment
  • Work experience in developing and improving instrumentation/measurement devices utilizing both engineering and lean principles
  • Hands-on design experience in analog, and/or digital electronics with industry standard CAE (computer-aided engineering) tools for electrical engineering as well as EE lab equipment
  • Experience with schematic capture, HDL code development, synthesis, simulation, and testing
  • Strong background in motor control systems, embedded systems, simulation, and vibration analysis


  • Proven ability to prioritize work, and manage multiple concurrent projects 
  • Proficient in electrical design; ability to conceptualize and implement design ideas and select the most suitable electrical components into the product
  • Skilled in understanding circuit card layout methods and using PCB artwork to troubleshoot, identify and correct design issues that potentially impact performance and reliability
  • Ability to read electronic circuit schematics and component datasheets 
  • Ability to read/understand software source code and use for troubleshooting and testing, and  develop new software as required to aid in product validation and testing 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; capable of working with employees at all levels 
  • Possess strong critical thinking skills and ability to solve challenging problems
  • Ability to gain trust, influence and collaborate with others for positive new product outcomes
  • Strong sense of urgency to identify problems and implement effective solutions

  • Detailed knowledge of motion control algorithms utilizing sensor-based and sensorless rotor position calculation

Technical:   Exceptional electrical and electronics engineering expertise.  Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge of electrical engineering principles and applications, as well as possess ability to conceptualize, design, and troubleshoot test electrical and electronics components and systems.  Skilled with PCB development software, as well as ability to effectively use other engineering software and Microsoft Office programs.  Ability to speak clearly and convey information effectively, as well as exhibit excellent listening skills.  Ability to organize, prioritize tasks, and maintain accurate records.

Communication:   Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a strong working knowledge of electrical engineering terminology and processes for manufacturing precision measurement products.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as product bulletins, notices and instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as scientific and technical journals and equipment manufacturers’ documentation.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from executives, managers, and front-line employees.  Ability to resolve any issues or problems, and communicate diplomatically and respectfully with other department employees and managers.

Math & Reasoning:   Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.  Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.   Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.   Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions..

Physical and Environmental Elements

Physical Demands:   Ability to stand, sit or move about frequently for up to 1/2 or more of normal work shift.  Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and to reach with hands and arms occasionally.  Ability to talk and to hear continuously.  Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.  Finger dexterity is required frequently for up to 1/2 of the normal work shift for PC input and component design, and to build or assist in constructing PCB prototypes, and conducting component and product testing.  Ability to see at close range (20 inches or less), at a distance (clear vision at 20 feet or more), ability to identify and distinguish colors, ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point, three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships, and ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus.

Work Environment:  Employee works part of the time in an office/lab environment with typical phone and equipment noise, as well as daily or frequently up to 20-30% in a non-air conditioned Manufacturing environment with moderate to high noise levels from air and electrically-operated machinery and equipment, and some variation in temperature due to external weather conditions each day.  May be occasionally briefly exposed to chemical vapors from parts cleaning, forklifts or other sources during the workday.

Special Requirements

May be required to work weekends and holidays as business necessitates; schedules will be determined by the department supervisor/management with at least 48 hours in advance notice.
